Publix Snaps Up SouthPark Site

Publix Super Markets Inc. has snagged space for a SouthPark store.

The Lakeland, Florida-based grocer says it has signed a lease for 68,000 square feet as part of The Colony redevelopment.

The Colony project sits on a 27-acre parcel at Sharon and Colony roads.

No timetable was available for when that store will open. It will employ approximately 140 people.

“SouthPark is a vibrant community that continues to experience growth and so we saw an opportunity to serve more customers while being part of an exciting retail development,” says Kim Reynolds, Publix media and community relations manager.

Publix currently operates 22 stores in the greater Charlotte area.

Construction on The Colony is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2019, according to Lisa Rose with Schlosser Development.

That Austin, Texas-based company is developing the project with Synco Properties.

The Colony project will include 300,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, 250,000 square feet of office space, a boutique-style hotel and 990 multifamily residences.

Publix will be located on the southwest corner of that development.
