Publix signs a lease for its first store in SouthPark

Publix has signed a lease for a new store in SouthPark.

The 68,000 square-foot Publix will be at the corner of Sharon Road and Colony Road, the Florida-based grocer said in a statement Tuesday. The store is less than a quarter mile away from the Harris Teeter on Morrison Boulevard.

The new shopping center that Publix will anchor, called The Colony, will include 300,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, 250,000 square feet of office space, a boutique hotel and apartments. Texas-based Schlosser Development is behind the project.

The Colony, which will be one of the largest redevelopments in the city, was approved by Charlotte City Council in early 2016, despite some concerns from neighbors and council members over traffic.
